A total of 283 apprentice vacancies are available for eligible candidates in 32 designated trades. The recruitment is open to eligible ITI and non-ITI candidates, as applicable to the respective trades. The apprenticeship training will be conducted at Dockyard Apprentice School, Naval Dockyard, Mumbai.

Naval Dockyard Mumbai Apprentice Eligibility
The educational qualification varies according to the trade.
Rigger
- Minimum 50% aggregate marks in 8th Standard.
Crane Operator
- Minimum 50% aggregate marks in 10th Standard.
Other Designated Trades
- Minimum 50% aggregate marks in the relevant subjects in 10th Standard.
- Minimum 50% aggregate marks in ITI in the relevant trade.
- The ITI qualification should be from NCVT or SCVT, as applicable.
Candidates should possess the prescribed educational and technical qualification for the trade for which they are applying.
Naval Dockyard Mumbai Apprentice Age Limit
The minimum age requirement varies according to the nature of the designated trade.
- Non-Hazardous Trades: Minimum 14 years as on the crucial date.
- Hazardous Trades: Minimum 18 years as on the crucial date.
Naval Dockyard Mumbai Apprentice Stipend
The stipend is paid according to the applicable trade and training period.

Naval Dockyard Mumbai Apprentice Training Period
The training period varies according to the designated trade. Most non-hazardous trades have a training period of one year, while certain trades such as Shipwright Steel, Shipwright Wood and Rigger have a two-year training period. Crane Operator (SI) has a training period of 15 months.
Naval Dockyard Mumbai Apprentice Selection Process
The selection of apprentice trainees will be carried out as per the guidelines promulgated by the Competent Authority.
Shortlisting of Applications
Naval Dockyard Mumbai will undertake preliminary scrutiny of applications received online to determine the candidates eligible to appear for the written examination. Candidates will normally be shortlisted in the ratio of 1:5 for every available vacancy in each trade and category.
Merit will be calculated based on the equal weightage of marks obtained in the qualification. For most ITI trades, marks obtained in 10th Standard and ITI will be considered. The notification specifies different criteria for Crane Operator and Rigger.
Written Examination
The shortlisted candidates will be called for a written examination consisting of objective-type questions. The examination will consist of 100 questions for 100 marks with a duration of 2 hours.

The question paper will generally be based on the Class 10 Standard syllabus. The Rigger examination will follow the Class 8 Standard syllabus as specified in the notification.
Naval Dockyard Mumbai Apprentice Merit List
In case two or more candidates obtain equal marks in the written examination, the following criteria will be used for determining merit:
- Date of birth, with the older candidate given preference.
- If the date of birth is also the same, alphabetical order of the first names will be considered.
Naval Dockyard Mumbai Apprentice Physical Standards
Candidates should satisfy the prescribed minimum standards of physical fitness under the Apprentices Rules, 1992.
The notification specifies physical fitness requirements including minimum height and weight standards and medical fitness requirements. Candidates should meet the applicable physical standards before joining apprenticeship training.
