Western Railway Sports Quota Recruitment 2026: Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC), Western Railway has released Employment Notice No. RRC/WR/01/2026 (Sports Quota) for recruitment of eligible sportspersons against the Open Advertisement Sports Quota for the year 2026-27. A total of 64 vacancies have been announced, including 21 Group C posts and 43 erstwhile Group D posts.

Eligible Indian citizens with the prescribed educational qualification and recognised sports achievements can submit their applications online from 01 September 2026 at 10:00 AM. The last date to apply is 30 September 2026 up to 6:00 PM. Recruitment will be made in Pay Level 5/4, Level 3/2 and Level 1 through document verification, sports trial and assessment of sports achievements and educational qualification.

Western Railway Sports Quota Eligibility Criteria 2026

Candidates must satisfy the prescribed citizenship, age, educational qualification and sports-achievement conditions.

  • The applicant must be a citizen of India.
  • The candidate must be between 18 and 25 years of age as on 01 January 2027.
  • The candidate must possess the educational qualification required for the Pay Level applied for.
  • The candidate must possess the prescribed recognised sports achievement.
  • Sports achievement must relate to the discipline / event / position advertised by Western Railway.
  • The candidate must be active in the relevant sport.

Western Railway Sports Quota Qualification 2026

Candidates must possess the required educational qualification by the closing date of the application. Candidates awaiting the result of the final examination of the prescribed qualification are not eligible to apply.

Typing Requirement for Clerk-cum-Typist

Candidates appointed to the category of Clerk-cum-Typist will have to qualify the prescribed Typing Proficiency Test within four years from the date of appointment.

  • English Typing: 30 words per minute
  • Hindi Typing: 25 words per minute

Until the typing requirement is qualified, appointment in this category will remain provisional as stated in the notification.

Western Railway Sports Quota Sports Eligibility 2026

Only sportspersons who have acquired the required sports achievement eligibility norms in championships held from 01 April 2024 up to 27 August 2026, the date of notification, and who are active in the sport are eligible, subject to the discipline-specific provisions contained in the notification.

For determining validity of a sports achievement, the concluding date of the championship or event will be taken into consideration.

Sports Qualification for Level 5/4

A candidate should satisfy the prescribed Level 5/4 sports norm such as:

  • Representation of India in the Olympic Games in Senior Category; or
  • At least 3rd position in the World Cup in Junior / Youth / Senior Category; or
  • At least 3rd position in World Championships in Junior / Senior Category; or
  • At least 3rd position in Asian Games in Senior Category; or
  • At least 3rd position in Commonwealth Games in Senior Category; or
  • At least 3rd position in Youth Olympics; or
  • At least 3rd position in Champions Trophy in Hockey; or
  • At least 3rd position in Thomas / Uber Cup in Badminton.

Sports Qualification for Level 3/2

Level 3/2 applicants must satisfy one of the prescribed sports standards, including applicable achievements such as:

  • Representing India in specified World Cup, World Championships, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympics, Champions Trophy or Thomas / Uber Cup events;
  • At least 3rd position in specified Commonwealth Championship, Asian Championship / Asia Cup, South Asian Federation Games, USIC World Railways Championship or World University Games;
  • At least 3rd position in Senior / Youth / Junior National Championships;
  • At least 3rd position in National Games organised under the aegis of the Indian Olympic Association;
  • At least 3rd position in All India Inter University Championship organised under the Association of Indian Universities; or
  • 1st position in Federation Cup Championships in Senior Category.

Sports Qualification for Level 1

For Level 1, recognised norms include the applicable achievements prescribed in the notification, such as:

  • Representation in specified Commonwealth Championship, Asian Championship / Asia Cup, South Asian Federation Games, USIC World Railways Championship or World University Games;
  • At least 3rd position in Federation Cup Championships in Senior Category; or
  • Representation of a State or equivalent unit with at least 8th position in Senior National Championships, subject to the exceptions mentioned in the notification.

Discipline-Specific Sports Eligibility Conditions

The notification provides additional or modified sports-achievement norms for certain disciplines. Candidates should carefully check the conditions applicable to their sport.

  • Athletics: Medal-winning performance in National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship may also be considered for Level 3/2 and below. Certain Gold Medal performances may also be considered for Level 5/4 and below.
  • Ball Badminton: Sports achievements in events conducted by BBFI or its affiliated units after 17 December 2025 up to the date of notification may be considered.
  • Body Building: Certain events conducted by the Indian Body Builders Federation or affiliated units after 31 December 2021 are not considered, subject to the exceptions stated for recognised AIU and International Federation certificates.
  • Boxing: Achievements in the Youth category from 25 September 2016 onwards in International Championships may be considered in place of Junior category as specified.
  • Cricket: Separate Level 3/2 norms are provided for Senior, U-23 and U-19 competitions.
  • Handball: Participation and medal-winning performances in specified Handball Association of India events from 05 September 2023 are subject to the restrictions given in the notification.
  • Hockey: Additional norms are prescribed separately for Men's and Women's Hockey.
  • Volleyball: Certain Volleyball Federation of India events after 02 January 2017 are not considered, subject to the stated exceptions.
  • Powerlifting: Certain events conducted by the Indian Powerlifting Federation or affiliated units after 03 October 2017 are not considered, subject to the stated exceptions.
  • Weightlifting: Updated bodyweight categories applicable from 01 June 2025 will be considered.
  • Wrestling: Sports-achievement certificates for events conducted by WFI or its affiliated units after 10 March 2025 up to the notification date will be considered.

Recognised Sports Championships

The championships relied upon for sports eligibility must be conducted under the aegis of recognised International / National Sports Federations and must also be recognised by the Railway Sports Promotion Board, wherever prescribed.

For the notified Junior National Championship norms, only eligible Senior National and Junior National Championships will be taken into consideration. Rural meets, festival meets and similar tournaments will not be considered.

Western Railway Sports Quota Application Fee 2026

Economically Backward Class for Fee Concession

For the purpose of the notified examination-fee concession, Economically Backward Class (EBC) means candidates whose family income is less than Rs. 50,000 per annum.

Candidates claiming the EBC fee benefit must upload the prescribed Income Certificate / BPL Card / Izzat MST as applicable and produce the required original document during Document Verification.

The application fee must be paid online through the payment gateway integrated with the application form.

Western Railway Sports Quota Trial 2026

Eligible candidates will be considered for the sports trial. During the trial, candidates will be assessed for:

  • Game Skill
  • Physical Fitness
  • Coach's Observations

The trial carries 40 marks. A candidate must secure at least 25 marks out of 40 to be declared FIT.

Candidates declared NOT FIT by the Trial Committee will not be assessed further by the Recruitment Committee.

Western Railway Sports Quota Minimum Qualifying Marks 2026

The offer of appointment will be made purely on merit. If two or more sportspersons obtain equal marks, preference will be given to the younger candidate for deciding merit.

Western Railway Sports Quota Salary 2026

Appointments will be made against Pay Level 5/4, Level 3/2 and Level 1 posts under the applicable Railway pay structure.

The notification states that emoluments on initial appointment will consist of the minimum pay of the allotted Pay Level plus other admissible allowances. During a prescribed training period, only the applicable stipend will be paid.

Western Railway Sports Quota Posting 2026

Selected candidates may be posted anywhere on Western Railway. Appointment may also be subject to transfer in accordance with Railway service requirements.

Final appointment is subject to the candidate passing the prescribed Railway Medical Fitness Test applicable to the allotted post.

Separate Application Rule

A candidate applying for more than one sports discipline, game, event or Pay Level must submit separate applications and pay the applicable fee separately for each application.

Candidates should not submit multiple applications with different particulars for the same discipline, as such applications may be rejected.
