The notification states that candidates recruited shall be placed at the minimum of the respective Pay Matrix level.
Southern Railway Sports Quota Eligibility 2026
Age Limit
Candidates must be between 18 and 25 years as on 01 January 2027.
- Date of Birth should be between 02 January 2002 and 01 January 2009, both dates inclusive.
- No upper or lower age relaxation is permissible.
The date of birth entered in the application must match the SSC/SSLC/Matriculation/10th certificate or equivalent certificate.

Candidates awaiting the result of their final examination are not eligible to apply. No relaxation in the minimum educational qualification is permitted, and the qualification must be from a Government-recognized institution
Sports Achievement Eligibility
Recognized sports achievements considered for this recruitment must have been obtained during the current or immediate previous two financial years. The relevant sports achievements should be from 01 April 2024 up to the date of notification, and the sportsperson should be an active player. The concluding day of the championship is considered for determining the validity of the sports achievement.
Sports performance during the trials will also be assessed.

Candidates fulfilling the sports norms for a higher Pay Level may apply for lower Pay Levels as well. However, they will only be considered for the Pay Level applied for and must give the required undertaking regarding claiming a higher Pay Level based on sports achievements obtained before joining Railways.
Southern Railway Sports Quota Selection Process 2026
The recruitment will be based on trial performance, assessment of sports achievements and educational qualification. Only candidates found FIT in the trials will be considered for the next stage.

A candidate must secure at least 25 marks out of 40 in the trials to be declared FIT and considered for the next stage. Candidates declared NOT FIT will not be assessed by the Recruitment Committee.

The offer of appointment will be based on merit and availability of vacancies. If two or more sportspersons obtain the same marks, the younger candidate will be given preference for deciding merit. The candidate must also be capable of being fitted into the Southern Railway team.

Southern Railway Sports Quota Trial Date
The date, venue and timing of the trials will be published separately on the Railway Recruitment Cell, Chennai website. Candidates are advised to check the official website regularly because they may be required to attend the trials at short notice.
Candidates must produce original documents relating to educational qualification, community, sports achievements, date of birth, fee concession and identity on the day of document verification and trials.
