The one-year apprenticeship training is being offered for 50 vacancies in 13 designated trades.
Eligible male and female candidates who have passed ITI in the relevant trade can apply through the official apprenticeship portal. The training is proposed to commence on 01 December 2026 and will be for a period of one year under the Apprentices Act, 1961 and Apprenticeship Rules, 1992.

Naval Ship Repair Yard Apprentice Eligibility Criteria
Nationality and Character
Only Indian nationals can apply for the Technician (Vocational) Apprentice Programme for One Year IT-03 Batch at Naval Ship Repair Yard, Sri Vijaya Puram.
Candidates should not have been convicted of offences or be under trial or in the process of being charge-sheeted or tried under Indian laws or rules/regulations of educational institutions.
As Naval Ship Repair Yard is a defence establishment, applications from candidates with questionable or suspicious antecedents may be rejected. If subsequent police verification does not provide a clean certificate, the selected candidate's candidature may be cancelled.
Educational Qualification
The minimum educational qualification is Matriculation followed by ITI passed in the respective trade under NCVT or SCVT.
The eligible ITI trades for the designated posts are as specified in the trade-wise vacancy table above and in the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992, as amended from time to time.
Age Limit
The minimum age is 18 years as on one day before the date of commencement of the Technician (Vocational) Apprentice Programme for One Year IT-03 Batch at NSRY (Sri Vijaya Puram).
There is no upper age restriction for apprenticeship training as per the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship office memorandum referred to in the notification.
Physical Standards
The physical fitness standard will be as prescribed under Rule 4 and Schedule II of the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992.
Candidates will be examined by the Yard Medical Officer of Naval Ship Repair Yard, Sri Vijaya Puram before enrolment.
Previous Apprenticeship Training
Candidates who have already undergone or are currently undergoing apprenticeship in the same trade under the Apprentices Act, 1961, as amended from time to time, in any Government, public sector or private industrial organization are not eligible to apply for the current programme.
Reservation of Apprentice Vacancies
Reservation of vacancies will be made according to the applicable provisions of the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992, including the rules applicable to the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Naval Ship Repair Yard provides equal opportunity without discrimination on the basis of sex, race, caste, religion, place of birth or other such categorization except where otherwise provided under applicable law and rules.
Since the establishment is engaged in activities considered risky, hazardous, physically demanding and arduous, 3% of vacancies are horizontally reserved for Persons with Disability (PwD) who are otherwise eligible and meet the applicable fitness relaxation criteria.
Reservation for Armed Forces Personnel / Ex-Servicemen
As stated in the notification, 3% of the overall vacancies are reserved for Ex-Servicemen and eligible children of Armed Forces personnel.
This reservation covers:
- Children of deceased or disabled Ex-Servicemen, including those killed or disabled in peace time.
- Children of Ex-Servicemen.
- Children of serving Jawans.
- Children of serving Officers.
- Ex-Servicemen.
PwD and Ex-Servicemen vacancies are adjusted against the appropriate category of UR, OBC, SC or ST to which the candidate belongs.
If reserved vacancies cannot be filled due to non-availability of eligible candidates, the unfilled vacancies will be filled by candidates not belonging to those categories. Unfilled vacancies of a particular enrolment will not be carried forward to the next enrolment as backlog.
Naval Ship Repair Yard Apprentice Stipend
Apprentices will be paid a monthly stipend in accordance with the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992, or as revised by the Government from time to time.
The notification does not specify a fixed stipend amount in the advertisement. Payment of stipend is subject to registration of the candidate on the online apprenticeship portal and execution of a valid apprenticeship contract.
Naval Ship Repair Yard Apprentice Selection Process 2026
The preliminary selection of candidates will be made through a merit list prepared trade-wise and category-wise based on the aggregate percentage of marks obtained in the relevant ITI trade and Standard X.
Candidates shortlisted in the preliminary merit list will be called for an Interview at the Apprentice Training School, Naval Ship Repair Yard, Sri Vijaya Puram.

Preliminary Merit List
The preliminary merit list will be prepared trade-wise and category-wise on the basis of the aggregate percentage of marks obtained in the ITI trade and Standard X.
Interview
Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview at the Apprentice Training School, Naval Ship Repair Yard, Sri Vijaya Puram.
The interview carries 50 marks. Candidates will also be tested for their technical skills in their respective trade during the interview.
Eligible candidates will receive an interview call letter through their registered email ID. Candidates are advised to regularly check the email address provided in their application.
Final Merit List
The final merit list will be prepared after considering the interview marks. In case two candidates secure the same marks, their date of birth will be compared and the older candidate will be placed above the other candidate.
If a further tie occurs, the ascending alphabetical order of the first name followed by the middle name followed by the surname as mentioned in the Standard X certificate, starting from alphabet A to Z, will be used for deciding the order of merit.

Medical Examination
All applicants are required to obtain a medical fitness certificate from a Government Hospital or Government Medical Officer.
In addition, candidates are examined by the Yard Medical Officer of Naval Ship Repair Yard, Sri Vijaya Puram before enrolment.
Naval Ship Repair Yard Apprentice Training 2026-27
The apprenticeship training is tentatively scheduled to commence on 01 December 2026.
Selected candidates will be offered an apprenticeship contract for a period of one year in accordance with the Apprentices Act, 1961 and Apprenticeship Rules, 1992.

The notification specifically states that self-photographs and photographs of other documents taken using mobile phones or cameras and uploaded are not acceptable.
Important Instructions for Applicants

Apprenticeship Training and Employment After Completion
Every full-term apprentice who completes the training period will appear for a test conducted by the respective Apprentice School or another agency authorized by the Central Government to assess proficiency in the designated trade.
Apprentices who pass the examination will be issued a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) for proficiency in the trade by the Director General of Training (DGT).
Completion of the apprenticeship does not guarantee employment with Naval Ship Repair Yard, Sri Vijaya Puram. The notification states that it is not obligatory for Naval Ship Repair Yard to offer employment to an apprentice after completion of training, nor is the apprentice required to accept employment if it is offered.
Reasons for Rejection of Application
Applications or candidature may be rejected for one or more of the following reasons:
- Incomplete application.
- Candidate does not possess the prescribed qualification for the designated trade at Naval Ship Repair Yard, Sri Vijaya Puram on the closing date of online application.
- Age or date of birth is not filled or is wrongly filled.
- Double or multiple applications are submitted.
