MP Police Subedar Stenographer and ASI Recruitment 2026 - Apply Online For 655 Vacancies

Madhya Pradesh Police has announced recruitment for 655 Subedar (Ministerial) Stenographer and Assistant Sub Inspector (Ministerial) posts through the Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board (MPESB). The vacancies are available in the General Branch, Special Branch, Field Unit and Crime Investigation Department.

The online application process will start on 24 September 2026 and eligible candidates can submit their applications up to 8 October 2026. Application corrections will be permitted up to 13 October 2026. The first-stage online written examination is scheduled to begin from 3 November 2026.

Candidates should carefully check the post-specific educational qualification before applying. In particular, the Subedar Stenographer post requires Hindi shorthand qualification at 100 words per minute, while both posts require the prescribed CPCT and computer qualifications.

MP Police Vacancy 2026: Post-wise Details

The rulebook provides vacancies under six post codes. There are 135 Subedar Stenographer vacancies and 520 Assistant Sub Inspector vacancies, taking the overall number of advertised posts to 655.

The notification contains detailed category-wise reservation tables, including an 87% and 13% provisional division in the vacancy roster. Candidates claiming reservation should check the relevant post-code table in the official rulebook before selecting their preference.

Reservation Rules

The recruitment rules specify the following vertical reservation structure:

Within the applicable vertical categories, the rulebook provides 35% horizontal reservation for women and 10% horizontal reservation for ex-servicemen.

Reservation benefits and the related age relaxations are available only to eligible Madhya Pradesh domicile candidates. Candidates belonging to another state can apply only against Unreserved/Open vacancies and cannot claim Madhya Pradesh reservation or related age relaxation.

The rulebook also states that the Madhya Pradesh Police Department is exempt from reservation/recruitment provisions for persons with disabilities under the cited Home Department order.

Important Dates

The application instructions state that applications can be submitted online up to 12:00 midnight on the closing date. Candidates should complete the application and fee payment within the prescribed period.

Educational Qualification

Subedar (Ministerial) Stenographer Qualification

Candidates applying for Subedar (Ministerial) Stenographer must satisfy all of the prescribed educational and skill requirements:

• Passed Higher Secondary Examination under the old system or Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination under the 10+2 system.
• Passed Hindi Shorthand at 100 words per minute from a Madhya Pradesh-recognised council, board, polytechnic, ITI or an equivalent recognised institution.
• Passed the CPCT examination with Hindi Typing.
• Must also possess one of the prescribed computer qualifications mentioned in the rulebook.

The accepted computer qualifications include any one of the following:

• Diploma-level examination conducted under DOEACC; or
• One-year Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA) certificate course from a government-recognised ITI; or
• Modern Office Management course from a recognised polytechnic, institution, college, university or ITI; or
• Computer diploma from a UGC-recognised institution/open university.

Assistant Sub Inspector (Ministerial) Qualification

For Assistant Sub Inspector (Ministerial), candidates must have:

• Passed 12th / Higher Secondary under the 10+2 system from a recognised board or institution.
• Passed the CPCT examination with Hindi Typing.
• One of the prescribed computer/technical qualifications listed below.

The accepted additional qualifications include:

• Engineering Degree; or
• MCA; or
• BCA; or
• M.Sc. in Computer Science or Information Technology; or
• AICTE-approved Polytechnic Diploma; or
• DOEACC Diploma-level qualification; or
• One-year COPA certificate from a government-recognised ITI; or
• Modern Office Management qualification from a recognised institution; or
• Computer Diploma from a UGC-recognised institution/open university.

Candidates must possess the required qualifications and relevant certificates within the eligibility period specified in the rulebook. The necessary eligibility documents must be available by 8 October 2026.

MP Police Subedar and ASI Age Limit 2026

The age is to be considered as on 8 October 2026. The age table in the rulebook specifies category-wise maximum age limits. A separate minimum age figure is not stated in that table, so candidates should not assume a minimum age that is not mentioned in the notification.

Age Relaxation for Ex-servicemen

Eligible ex-servicemen can deduct the period of previous defence service from their present age, subject to the conditions given in the recruitment rules. After such deduction, the age must not exceed the applicable upper age limit by more than three years.

The rulebook also explains that members of central paramilitary/police forces such as CRPF, BSF and ITBP are not treated as ex-servicemen for this particular age-relaxation provision.

Salary

Under the Madhya Pradesh Government provisions cited in the rulebook, newly appointed employees will receive stipend based on the minimum pay at the rate of 70% in the first year, 80% in the second year and 90% in the third year. Other admissible allowances and benefits will be payable according to government rules.

MP Online Portal Charges

• Application submitted through an authorised MP Online kiosk: Rs. 60.
• Application submitted through a registered citizen user login instead of a kiosk: Rs. 20.

For each application correction, the rulebook lists a Rs. 20 correction fee plus Rs. 40 portal fee.

Selection Process

The recruitment process is conducted in two principal examination stages, followed by the prescribed verification and fitness requirements.

On the basis of the first-stage cutoff percentile, candidates up to approximately seven times the advertised vacancies in each vertical category will be considered for the practical examination. If multiple candidates obtain the cutoff percentile, all candidates at that cutoff can be called even if the number exceeds seven times the vacancies.

A separate cutoff percentile is not fixed for horizontal categories such as women and ex-servicemen.

To qualify in the practical examination, candidates must obtain at least 30% marks.

The final merit is prepared according to the combined performance in the written and practical examinations, subject to successful document verification and fulfilment of the other recruitment conditions. Where the examination is conducted in multiple shifts, MPESB's prescribed normalization/percentile methodology applies.

MP Police Written Exam Pattern 2026

No marks will be deducted for an incorrect answer or an unanswered question.

Language note: The syllabus section describes the first-stage paper as Hindi-language MCQs, while the detailed examination schedule states that objective questions will be available in Hindi/English medium. Candidates should follow the language options displayed by MPESB in the actual examination system.

Written Exam Schedule

The examination is scheduled to begin from 3 November 2026.

Subedar Stenographer Practical Test

The practical examination for Subedar (Ministerial) Stenographer carries 100 marks, has a total duration of one hour and requires a minimum of 30 marks to qualify.

Hindi Shorthand and Transcription Test

• Two Hindi shorthand dictations will be given.
• Each dictation will be delivered at 100 words per minute.
• Duration of each dictation: 5 minutes.
• After each dictation, candidates will receive 5 minutes to read and correct the shorthand draft.
• Candidates will receive 20 minutes for transcription of each dictation on the computer.
• Each shorthand dictation carries a maximum of 10 marks.
• Transcription of each dictation carries a maximum of 40 marks.

Only the material typed on the computer will be evaluated. Corrections made with pen or pencil will not be accepted. The shorthand notebook must also be returned as prescribed in the rulebook.

ASI Ministerial Practical Typing Test

The Assistant Sub Inspector (Ministerial) practical examination is also for 100 marks with a total duration of one hour. Candidates need at least 30 marks to qualify.

• Two Hindi paragraphs will be provided.
• Each paragraph will contain approximately 600 words.
• Candidates will get 30 minutes for each paragraph.
• Each paragraph carries 50 marks.
• Only computer-typed material will be evaluated.

The notification specifies full-error and half-error rules for omissions, additional words, incorrect words, sentence-order errors, spacing and spelling errors. Evaluation will be carried out according to those rules.

Physical Standards

The rulebook states that no relaxation is permitted in the prescribed physical measurement standards.

Medical Standards

Candidates will be examined by the prescribed medical board. Important medical conditions mentioned in the notification include:

• Required height must be satisfied.
• Unaided visual acuity should not be below 6/9 in one eye and 6/12 in the other eye.
• Candidates must be able to distinguish principal colours.
• Knock-knee and flat foot should not be present.
• Candidates must satisfy the overall medical fitness standards required for police service.

Important Eligibility Conditions

• The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
• Necessary eligibility certificates relating to age, qualification, reservation and other claimed benefits must be available by the prescribed eligibility date.
• Candidates having more than two living children, where one child was born on or after 26 January 2001, are subject to the disqualification rule and the exception specified in the notification.
• Government employees must possess prior permission from the competent appointing authority to appear in the examination.
• Candidates dismissed or removed on disciplinary grounds from applicable government/semi-government service or defence service are not eligible under the stated provisions.
• Non-Madhya Pradesh candidates can compete only for Unreserved/Open vacancies.
• All required original documents must be produced during the second-stage document verification.

Documents Required for Document Verification

Candidates called for the second stage should bring the original documents along with self-attested copies, including those applicable to their claim:

• Birth certificate or High School/10+2 marksheet showing date of birth.
• Educational qualification certificates and marksheets.
• SC/ST/OBC Non-Creamy Layer/EWS certificate in the prescribed format, where applicable.
• Madhya Pradesh domicile certificate for reservation and related benefits.
• Defence service certificate for eligible ex-servicemen.
• Service certificate and required permission/NOC for candidates already employed.
• Certificate for eligible Inter-caste Marriage Incentive age relaxation.
• Vikram Award certificate, where age relaxation is claimed.
• Birth certificates of children for married candidates, where required.
• Certificate of identity issued by the District Magistrate for transgender candidates, where applicable.

Candidates seeking eligible travel-fare reimbursement under the rules should also carry a photocopy of the first page of their bank passbook.

Documents to Upload with the Online Application

• Recent colour photograph.
• Signature.
• Specified handwritten declaration.
• 8th/10th/12th marksheet as applicable for proof of date of birth.
• Caste certificate for SC/ST/OBC candidates, where applicable.
• EWS certificate for candidates claiming EWS status.
• NCC or other priority/bonus-related certificate where a claim is being made.

Photo and Signature Instructions

The photograph should be of good quality with a white background and should normally not be more than three months old on the date of application. The candidate should face the camera and both ears should be clearly visible. The notification also requires the photograph to carry the candidate's name and the date on which it was taken.

Candidates are advised by the rulebook to preserve at least five copies of the same photograph for later stages of the recruitment process.

How to Apply for MP Police Subedar and ASI Recruitment 2026

1. Visit the MPESB/MP Online application portal within the application period.
2. Read the recruitment rulebook and confirm that you meet the qualification and eligibility requirements.
3. Fill in personal, educational and category details carefully.
4. Enter Aadhaar number/Aadhaar VID as required in the application.
5. Enter details of the photo identity document that will be produced at the examination centre.
6. Select the eligible posts and branches and provide the required post/cadre preference order.
7. Upload the photograph, signature, handwritten declaration and applicable supporting documents.
8. Select four preferred examination cities.
9. Pay the applicable examination and portal charges.
10. Submit the application and keep a printout/copy of the completed form and payment receipt.
11. If necessary, make corrections within the correction period ending on 13 October 2026.

Candidates applying for more than one eligible post are required to submit one application and indicate their post/cadre preferences. A candidate may not be considered for a post that was not selected in the preference list even if the candidate obtains a high percentile.

MP Police Exam Cities

Candidates must select four examination-city preferences while submitting the application. The rulebook lists the following examination cities:

MPESB will try to allot an examination centre according to the candidate's preferences and seat availability. However, another examination city or centre may be allotted depending on availability.

What to Carry to the Examination Centre

• Downloaded MPESB admit card.
• An approved original photo identity document.
• Ball-point pen as prescribed.
• Aadhaar/Aadhaar-related details required for biometric verification.

Important ID note: The rulebook contains differing wording regarding e-Aadhaar. The opening instructions state that an e-Aadhaar verified through UIDAI may be accepted, while the detailed examination-hall instructions later state that e-Aadhaar is not valid. To avoid difficulty at the examination centre, candidates should carry an approved original physical photo ID such as Aadhaar card, voter ID, PAN card, driving licence or passport as applicable.

Aadhaar-based multi-level biometric verification can be conducted at the examination centre. Candidates arriving after the prescribed reporting time will not be permitted to enter.

Special Priority Marks

The rulebook identifies certain priority categories and states that eligible candidates in these categories will receive additional marks equal to 5% of the marks obtained in the written examination. The listed categories include:

• Up to two dependants from the family of a soldier killed in the specified India-Pakistan conflict.
• Eligible ex-servicemen of other ranks.
• Election surplus employees.
• Surplus employees.
• Census 1981 surplus employees.
• Eligible work-charged/contingency fund employees.
• NCC candidates possessing a C Certificate.
• Specified Indian citizens who came from Myanmar and Sri Lanka under the provisions mentioned in the rulebook.

After Final Selection

Selected candidates will be appointed on three years of probation and sent for prescribed training. Candidates must successfully complete the training programme.

A candidate appointed to a particular unit must normally complete at least five years of service in that unit before becoming eligible for transfer to another unit.

The rulebook also states that selected candidates will generally not be posted in their home district, except in the case of posting at Madhya Pradesh Police Headquarters.

Depending on administrative requirements, selected candidates may be posted in other branches of the Police Department or in other Madhya Pradesh Government establishments, including postings inside or outside the state as permitted by the recruitment rules.

Important Instructions for Candidates

• Carefully check eligibility before submitting the application because eligibility at the written-exam stage is provisional.
• Do not submit multiple applications using different identities.
• Keep the application number and payment details safely for downloading the admit card and making corrections.
• Changes to the application will not be accepted after the correction deadline.
• Application number, transaction ID, board application number, mobile number and email ID cannot be changed under the correction provisions listed in the rulebook.
• Electronic devices including mobile phones, calculators, Bluetooth devices, electronic watches and recording devices are prohibited at the examination centre.
• After publication of the result, the rulebook does not provide for rechecking or revaluation.
• The number of vacancies may be increased or reduced by the department.
