Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) has released the official notification for the recruitment of Gazetted Probationers under the Karnataka Administrative Services Examination 2026-27. The recruitment is being conducted under the Karnataka Recruitment of Gazetted Probationers (Appointment by Competitive Examinations) Rules, 1997, as amended from time to time.

A total of 319 Group A and Group B vacancies have been announced in various departments of the Government of Karnataka. The vacancy total includes 297 Residual Parent Cadre posts and 22 Hyderabad-Karnataka cadre posts.

Eligible candidates can submit their applications online through the KPSC Udyoga portal from 01 August 2026 to 31 August 2026. The Preliminary Examination is tentatively scheduled to be held on 15 November 2026.

KPSC KAS Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess one of the following qualifications awarded by a university established by law in India:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline
  • Master’s Degree
  • An equivalent qualification recognised under the applicable recruitment rules

Candidates who have appeared for the final qualifying examination but whose results have not been declared may be admitted provisionally to the Preliminary Examination.

However, candidates declared qualified for the Main Examination must upload proof of passing the prescribed degree examination while applying for the Main Examination. Failure to submit the required proof will make them ineligible for admission to the Main Examination.

KPSC KAS Age Limit

The minimum and maximum age limits applicable on the prescribed cut-off date are given below:

The notification also refers to a one-time age relaxation of five years under the relevant Karnataka Government order, subject to the conditions prescribed in the notification.

Additional Age Relaxation

  • Age relaxation is applicable to Persons with Disabilities as prescribed under the recruitment rules.
  • Age relaxation is applicable to eligible Ex-Servicemen according to Karnataka Government rules.
  • Other special-category relaxations will be allowed only after submission of valid supporting certificates.

Appearance in the Preliminary Examination will be counted as one attempt. Candidates exceeding the permitted number of attempts will not be eligible.

The fee can be paid online through Net Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card or UPI. The application will be rejected if the applicable fee is not paid successfully.

Once paid, the examination fee will not be refunded or adjusted against any other recruitment or examination.

KPSC KAS Preliminary Exam Pattern

The Preliminary Examination consists of two objective-type multiple-choice papers. Each paper contains 100 questions, with two marks awarded for each question.

Preliminary Examination Important Points

  • The question papers will be provided in Kannada and English.
  • The General Mental Ability section will be of SSLC or Class 10 standard.
  • The remaining parts of the Preliminary Examination will be of degree standard.
  • Candidates will be shortlisted for the Main Examination according to the ratio prescribed in the recruitment rules.
  • Preliminary Examination marks are used for shortlisting and are not added to the final merit score.

The Main Examination consists of qualifying language papers and five compulsory descriptive papers. It is followed by a Personality Test.

Qualifying Language Papers

  • Candidates must secure at least 35% or 52.5 marks separately in Kannada and English qualifying papers.
  • Marks secured in Kannada and English qualifying papers will not be counted for final merit.
  • Candidates failing to secure the prescribed qualifying marks will not be eligible for the Personality Test or final selection.

Main Examination Important Points

  • The Main Examination is conventional and descriptive in nature.
  • All five merit papers are compulsory.
  • Question papers will be set in Kannada and English.
  • Candidates may answer a paper entirely in Kannada or entirely in English, except for the qualifying language papers.
  • The standard of compulsory Main Examination papers will be at degree level.
  • Written Examination and Personality Test marks will be considered for final selection.

Physical Standards

Certain posts such as Assistant Superintendent of Prisons and Excise Deputy Superintendent may require candidates to satisfy post-specific physical standards prescribed in the notification.

Candidates applying for such posts should carefully verify the height, chest and other physical requirements before selecting their post preferences.

  1. Visit the KPSC online application portal at kpsconline.karnataka.gov.in.
  2. Click on the New Registration link if you have not completed One Time Registration.
  3. Register using a valid mobile number and email address.
  4. Complete the applicant profile with personal, educational and reservation details.
  5. Upload the required photograph, signature and eligibility certificates.
  6. Login and click on the Apply to Post tab.
  7. Select the Gazetted Probationers 2026-27 notification.
  8. Review the application form carefully before submission.
  9. Pay the applicable examination fee through the available online payment method.
  10. Download the accepted application form containing the QR code and retain it for future reference.

Photograph and Signature Requirements

  • The recent passport-size photograph should not exceed 200 KB.
  • The signature file should not exceed 70 KB.
  • Photograph and signature must be uploaded in JPEG or JPG format.
  • Uploaded documents must be clear and legible.
