PGIMER Chandigarh Recruitment 2026: Senior Residents, Demonstrators & Senior Medical Officers - 134 Posts

The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh invites online applications from Indian Nationals for various tenure posts of Senior Residents, Senior/Junior Demonstrators, and Senior Medical Officers for a maximum period of 03 years. The recruitment covers PGIMER, Chandigarh and PGI Satellite Centre, Sangrur, Punjab.

A. PGIMER, Chandigarh

Senior Residents (Post Code: SR/023) - 110 Posts

Vacancies are available in departments including Anaesthesia (16), Anatomy (2), Biochemistry (3), Community Medicine (2), Oral Health Sciences (Prosthodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics), Forensic Medicine (3), General Surgery (7), Hospital Administration (9), Internal Medicine (6), and many others up to Immunopathology (Neuro) (1).

Senior Medical Officer (Post Code: SMO/024) - 3 Posts

Junior/Senior Demonstrators (Post Code: JSD/025) - 6 Posts (Biochemistry, Community Medicine & SPH, Virology)

B. PGI Satellite Centre, Sangrur, Punjab

Senior Residents - 13 Posts and Senior Medical Officers - 2 Posts in various departments like Anaesthesia, Biochemistry, Community Medicine, etc.

Grand Total: 119 (Chandigarh) + 15 (Sangrur) = 134 Posts (approx.)

* Denotes backlog vacancies. 14 posts reserved for PwBD (non-surgical). Vacancies are provisional and subject to variation.

Pay Scales

  • Senior Resident & Senior Medical Officer: Level-11 (Rs. 67,700/- + NPA)
  • Sr. Demonstrator (Medical): Level-11 (Rs. 67,700/- + NPA)
  • Sr. Demonstrator (Non-Medical): Level-10 (Rs. 56,100/-)
  • Jr. Demonstrator (Medical/Non-Medical): Level-06 (Rs. 35,400/- + NPA where applicable)

Eligibility Conditions

Age Limit

Up to 45 years (as on 11.05.2026). Age relaxation applicable as per rules.

Educational Qualifications

For Senior Residents:

  • MBBS or equivalent + Postgraduate degree MD/MS in the concerned specialty (or equivalent as specified).
  • Registration with Central/State Medical Council.
  • For Dental (OHSC): BDS + MDS in concerned specialty + DCI registration.

For Senior Medical Officer: MD/MS (Medicine/Surgery)

For Demonstrators: Specific qualifications like MD (Biochemistry), M.Sc. + Ph.D. for non-medical, MA/M.Sc./MPH/Ph.D. for Community Medicine posts, etc.

Candidates who have completed 3 years SR tenure or DM/M.Ch. are not eligible for Senior Resident posts. Final year candidates appearing in June 2026 may apply if they submit pass certificate by 30.06.2026.

Selection Procedure

  • Computer Based Test (CBT): 75 marks (50 questions × 1.5 marks, 50 minutes). Negative marking: 0.25 per wrong answer.
  • Departmental Interview & Assessment: 25 marks.
  • Total: 100 marks.
  • Shortlisting in 1:3 ratio for document verification and interview.
  • Minimum qualifying: 40% (UR/EWS), 35% (SC/ST/OBC) separately for CBT and Interview.
  • Final merit based on aggregate score.

Chandigarh (Tricity), Delhi/NCR, Hyderabad, Kolkata (subject to availability).
