The Public Service Commission, West Bengal (WBPSC) has issued Advertisement No. 12/2024 for the Clerkship Examination, 2024. The examination will be used for recruitment to posts of Lower Division Assistant, Lower Division Clerk and similar posts in the Secretariat, Directorates, District Offices and Regional Offices under the Government of West Bengal.
The number of vacancies will be announced later. All appointments will initially be made on a temporary basis. The recruitment examination will be conducted in two successive stages, namely Part-I (Objective Type) and Part-II (Conventional Type – Written).

WBPSC Clerkship Vacancy 2024
The Commission has stated that the number of vacancies will be announced later. All appointments will initially be made on a temporary basis.
WBPSC Clerkship Salary 2024
The pay scale for the Clerkship posts is Level 6, Rs. 22,700/- to Rs. 58,500/-, besides admissible D.A., M.A. and H.R.A. as per ROPA, 2019.
WBPSC Clerkship Eligibility 2024
Candidates must have passed the Madhyamik Examination of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent.
Candidates must also possess elementary knowledge of computer operation and have the ability to type on a computer at a speed of 20 words per minute in English or 10 words per minute in Bengali. Candidates are required to exercise their option regarding the typing requirement at the time of submitting the application.
WBPSC Clerkship Age Limit 2024
The candidate should be not below 18 years and not more than 45 years as on 01 January 2024.
The upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST candidates and by 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates of West Bengal. For Persons with Benchmark Disabilities, the upper age limit is relaxable up to 45 years. Other applicable relaxation is provided for eligible Ex-Servicemen as per the notification.
WBPSC Clerkship Application Fee 2024
The application fee is Rs. 110/- plus applicable service charges. The fee is payable through online mode only.
SC/ST candidates of West Bengal and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities having physical disability of 40% and above are exempted from payment of the fee. OBC candidates are required to pay the prescribed fee. SC/ST candidates belonging to other States are not eligible for fee exemption.
WBPSC Clerkship Selection Process 2024
The Clerkship Examination will be conducted in two successive stages:
- Part-I: Objective Type
- Part-II: Conventional Type – Written
Part-I will be conducted first. A limited number of candidates securing the prescribed qualifying marks in Part-I will be allowed to appear in Part-II on a subsequent date to be notified by the Commission.
Elementary knowledge of computer operation and ability to type on a computer will be judged only after candidates qualify in both Part-I and Part-II.
WBPSC Clerkship Exam 2024
The Direct Recruitment Examination (Part-I) is proposed to be held at various centres in Kolkata and certain other districts of West Bengal. The notification states that the Part-I examination is tentatively scheduled in December 2026 or thereabout.
Scheduled Tribe candidates of Darjeeling district and candidates from Darjeeling Sadar, Mirik and Kurseong will be allowed to appear at the Darjeeling centre. Candidates from Kalimpong district will be allowed to appear at the Kalimpong centre.
WBPSC Clerkship Negative Marking
There will be negative marking of 0.25 mark for each wrong answer to multiple-choice questions.
WBPSC Clerkship Qualifying Marks
The Commission has prescribed category-wise qualifying marks in aggregate. The aggregate will comprise marks obtained in Part-I and Part-II taken together.

The preliminary examination centres listed in the notification include Kolkata, Baruipur, Diamond Harbour, Barrackpore, Barasat, Howrah, Chinsurah, Burdwan, Durgapur, Medinipur, Tamluk, Bankura, Purulia, Jhargram, Suri, Krishnanagar, Berhampore, Malda, Balurghat, Raiganj, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Siliguri, Kalimpong and Darjeeling.

WBPSC Clerkship Edit Window 2026
The edit window will be available from 28 October 2026 to 01 November 2026. Applicants will be allowed to edit certain fields only once during the prescribed period.
Candidates are advised to verify the application details carefully and obtain a printout of the form to identify any discrepancies. Requisite documents mentioned in the advertisement are also required to be uploaded during the edit window.

Important Instructions

- Category certificates required under the advertisement must be uploaded in PDF format of not more than 100 KB.

- A candidate must possess a valid admit card to appear in the examination.
- Final merit will be prepared on the basis of total marks obtained in Part-I and Part-II, subject to qualifying the computer operation and typing test.
